Goals

In moving ahead to bring the Quassaick Creek Estuary Preserve Trail into reality, the following set of guiding principles have been developed to help maximize community enthusiasm and involvement, and to achieve the greatest benefits from this effort for the people and the environment:

(1) To provide public access to the entire estuary preserve;

(2) To offer positive incentives to owners of lands bordering the Quassaick Creek to contribute the use of their sites to the Preserve;

(3) To make young people aware of the presence and importance of the preserve by encouraging school and college science programs, scouting organizations and clubs to become "owners" of the preserve;

(4) To recover and protect the site's natural resources and the quality of its water; to provide the natural habitat the preserve provides for fish and wildlife;

(5) To research and document the site's historic and prehistoric record;

(6) To garner the endorsement of adjacent municipalities: the City of Newburgh, Orange County, The Town of New Windsor, and New York State.
